They both were about the same age of 2 years, both curious and full of life. Precious to their Mothers and Grandmothers alike.
The first lived in an apartment behind my home at the time. The parents, a young couple that attended church with us, their Dad was our Pastor. Little did any of us suspect that our faith in God would soon be put to the test. Hidie, the 2 year old daughter was at the baby sitters for the afternoon. The babysitter was distracted for a few moments, then checking on the baby , she saw her at the bottom of the pool. Panic sets in as she desperately tries to rescue and revive the precious one. The paramedics are there now, they revive her, but the listless body is rushed to the hospital. The news of severe brain damage is given to the family later that day.
The suggestion is to take Hidie off life support to let her die now. The option is a lifetime of a severely brain damaged child that will need virtually everything done fore her with no personality in return.
The family of strong faith chose to trust God with her future, afterall God can heal even the dead like He did Lazarus in the bible. Unfortunately that wasn’t God’s plan. Instead He chose to teach some things through Hidie, not only to the family but to those of us who have observed faith in action for about 16 years now, as Hidie has grown into a young lady.
We have watched from afar how the Mother and Father have continually dealt with health scares and difficulties. But have given and received true innocent love from a person, not a vegetable. God has shown His Amazing self through Hidie.
So when we were called to Prayer for Amy, 2yr old number two, Hidie Immediately came to mind. The story is like a shadow of Hidie.
The babysitter is carefully watching out for Amy and her older 5 yr. old sister.
Big sister goes out the back door to play and leaves it open, a natural thing for a small child to do, right?
Only this time Amy spots that open door and curiously goes out it to explore. She sees the water and remembers the fun of being in it with Mommy. Somehow she falls in the pretty water, she is soon underwater and takes in a lung full of the treated water.
When she is seen in the pool, lifelessly, her body is pulled out and once again the emergency people are called. She is revived and hope again is found. Prayer warriors are called. People all over the country begin praying for Amy, the amount of damage is unknown. Again we wait for the outcome.
Amy is put into a coma while damages are assessed. One long day goes by with no word, then a second. Finally on the third morning we get the word, an MRI shows Amy will have 98% brain recovery!!
She has lung damage and will be in the hospital a couple of weeks more, but they have started waking her up from the medically induced coma.
Why, I ask is one spared and one so damaged? Maybe the answer is in the families of Hidie and Amy. Amy is from a single Mother family, no husband to support her in this. Amy ‘s Mother is a newer believer, just learning about God, faith and God’s Grace.
Hidie’s family is founded strongly in faith with a long time Christian upbringing.
Hebrews chapter 11 in the Bible is known as “The Hall of Faith”. Perhaps that is because Hebrews 11:1 is the best place to find the Biblical definition of faith “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (KJV). It is also the book and chapter that we can review for those heroes of faith, such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and others. The Bible uses the words faith and belief or believe interchangeably. Eternal life is received by grace through faith. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world and without faith it is impossible to please God (1 John 5:4; Heb 11:6). Take a look at these popular Scripture quotes about faith. God Bless,
